In Albany, legislators got away without touching the much-needed Integrity in Government Act. They also failed to act on a measure sponsored by Sen. John DeFrancisco that would have awarded legal fees or punitive damages to insurance policyholders who could demonstrate their claims were unjustly denied. The bill had widespread support, since current law discourages policyholders from pursuing just claims because their legal fees could end up costing more than the award itself. But the measure was killed when Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno decided not to allow it onto the Senate floor for a vote
